Bass tuner

Pluck a string — the tuner recognises it and shows whether to tighten or loosen it. It works with your microphone right in the browser; the sound is never uploaded.

Bass guitar tuning

Standard bass tuning is E A D G — one octave below the four thick strings of a guitar. A 5-string bass adds a low B (B0, 30.87 Hz); a 6-string adds a high C as well.

  • 4th string — E1, 41.2 Hz
  • 3rd string — A1, 55 Hz
  • 2nd string — D2, 73.42 Hz
  • 1st string — G2, 98 Hz

Other tunings in the list: 5-string (B E A D G), Drop D, 6-string (B E A D G C).

How to tune a bass guitar online

  • Press "Turn on microphone" and allow access — the sound is processed right in your browser and never uploaded.
  • Pluck one string. The tuner recognises it and the needle shows how far it is below or above the note.
  • Needle left of centre — the string is flat, tighten the peg. Right — it is sharp, loosen it. The green zone (±5 cents) and a check mark mean the string is in tune.
  • Prefer tuning by ear? Tap a string in the list to hear its note.
  • Phone and laptop microphones barely hear the lowest notes. If the needle does not catch the open string, play the harmonic at the 12th fret — it sounds an octave higher and the tuner reads it as the same string.
  • Let the string ring: on a bass the fundamental takes a moment to come through over the overtones.
  • For the most precise tuning, plug the bass into an audio interface and choose its input in Settings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tune a bass without a clip-on tuner?

Open this page, allow the microphone and play an open string loudly and evenly. The tuner finds the string itself and shows the deviation in cents.

What are the bass string frequencies?

E1 — 41.2 Hz, A1 — 55 Hz, D2 — 73.42 Hz, G2 — 98 Hz. The low B of a 5-string bass is 30.87 Hz.

The tuner does not hear my low string — what can I do?

Play the 12th-fret harmonic or hold the microphone near the amp speaker. Built-in microphones cut the deep lows; the harmonic sounds an octave higher and is picked up reliably.
