How to tune a guitar online

  • Press "Turn on microphone" and allow access — the sound is processed right in your browser and never uploaded.
  • Pluck one string. The tuner recognises it and the needle shows how far it is below or above the note.
  • Needle left of centre — the string is flat, tighten the peg. Right — it is sharp, loosen it. The green zone (±5 cents) and a check mark mean the string is in tune.
  • Prefer tuning by ear? Tap a string in the list to hear its note.
  • Tune from the 6th string to the 1st, then go through them once more: tightening one string slightly changes the others.
  • Approach the note from below: if a string is sharp, loosen it below the note and bring it back up — it will hold the tuning longer.
  • Pluck the string firmly over the sound hole and let it ring; a muted string is too short for an accurate reading.
  • Tuning an electric guitar without an amp? Hold your phone or laptop close to the pickups — the tuner can hear the unplugged strings.

Frequently asked questions

How do I tune my guitar online?

Open this page, allow the microphone and pluck a string. The tuner recognises which string it is and shows how far it is below or above the note. Green zone and a check mark mean the string is in tune.

What is standard guitar tuning?

E A D G B E. The 6th string is 82.41 Hz, the 5th (A) is 110 Hz and the 1st is 329.63 Hz.

What is Drop D tuning?

The 6th string is lowered a whole step from E to D (D A D G B E). Power chords on the low strings take one finger and the sound gets heavier. Pick "Drop D" in the tuning list.

Why does my guitar go out of tune so fast?

New strings stretch for a few days, wood reacts to temperature and humidity, and tuning pegs can slip. Tune up to the note from below and check the tuning before every session.
